Shameless Self Promotion

March 12, 2008 by tamarasheehan

Start watch before coming on stage!!!!

Relax!!!!!

(Make eye contact with people in the audience) Nice to see you. Nice to see you. Welcome back.

(Sip water) Well, welcome everyone to another edition of Shameless Self Promotion. Thanks for coming back. You guys are great. We’ll get right to business, but first, a joke: What’s brown and sticky? (dramatic pause) A stick! (pause for laughs). But seriously, folks, seriously, it’s Aurora Award season. Yep, it’s that time again.

(Become serious) Notoriety, as some of you, I’m sure, know, is the lifeblood of an author’s career. We depend on people telling other people about our writing, sharing on our books, emailing links to our webpages. And you guys do this, and it’s great. But now I’m going to ask one thing more.

If, in 2007, you read something of mine that made you think, made you wonder or made you sit back and scratch your head, I’m going to ask you to click on this link. (Signal the html coder with pre-arranged signal)

(Link appears in illuminated text)

This link will take you to the Aurora Awards nomination page, where I hope you will take the time to nominate whatever story you most enjoyed. Voting closes on the 17th of March.

One more note: If you wanted to email me at raewyn07@hotmail[dot]com and let me know what works of 2007 you enjoyed or perhaps did not enjoy (pause for laughs), I’d be glad to get your feedback.

(Loud sigh) Phew. Well. I’m glad that’s over. Man do I hate speaking in public. Thanks for turning out, everyone! Enjoy the rest of the night! (Cue band, exit.)

  • Tamara Sheehan

Tamara Sheehan is the Aurora Award nominated author of The Tenth Man, a fantasy novel about terrorism and revenge set in the modern world. Her newest book, The Mediocre Assassin's Handbook is out from Prizm Young Adult, and her next book Stormy Bamboo and Other Tales is in the works. Both are both set in an alternative 19th century Asian world. Tam has written over dozen short stories and reads slush weekly for Bewildering Stories. She likes feedback (no, really) so if you want to get in touch you can join her email list at tamarasheehan is @ hotmail dot com (and suffer spam once a month) or introduce yourself when you see her at a convention. If you want to pick up a copy of one of her books, check out the Shop.

  • What I’m Reading Now

I just set out an ambitious program of reading designed to help me prepare for the next book I'm writing. It's sitting in a slightly scary pile over by the table. Mean time, I've got Shake Hands with the Devil on loan from my friend Devon, The Essential Haiku sitting on the coffee table, a new Locus Magazine and A Woman's Guide to Peak Performance, which is what I picked up after I threw Training For Black Belt across the room.
