Benkyo shimasu!

July 3, 2008 by tamarasheehan

Yay! The craziness of summer, the vacations, the weird works schedules, the karate tests and book events are either over or under control and Adam and I can go back to attending the evening Japanese classes we’ve been taking since January. Can’t wait! Benkyo shimasu!

Edit: If you’re looking for what benkyo shimasu means, you can find that out right here.

  • What I’m Reading Now

I've spent the last few days at work and baking, which has been a good way to spend a blustery, rainy half week. I've also been curled up under the blankets on the couch with Philippa Greggory's book The Boleyn Inheritance, which I got by accident from a friend who was returning some books she'd borrowed from me and had accidentally stuck that one in the pile. Awesome. Ever since Tudor Cast became sadly irregular, I've had too little British history in my life.

If you need something beautifully researched and wonderfully written, and if you think the women are underrepresented as primary movers in SFF and perhaps are guilty of not writing women very much yourself (*cough*), and if you, perhaps wanted to look at how a master works her all-female cast, then it's likely that you'll like this book. Heck, you might even like all of Greggory's books. And you might be wondering if the library has any of them in right now. Just sayin'.
