I ordered books from Amazon ages ago and they finally arrived. That means this afternoon I’ll be curling up with a copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which looks like it’ll be of underwear soiling quality, and Atlanta Nights, which may also be hysterical, but in a different way.
I also got some more books [...]

OK, look, I know I’m blogging and unhealthy amount. This is probably the last one for today. And tomorrow I have to do stuff that is not at the computer so I want to post this now.
Mediocre Assassin’s Handbook is one of Prizm’s top ten books right now!
Hot damn and awesomesauce. Thanks, you guys. That [...]

OK, this is going to be one of those posts you’re not really supposed to write about those things you’re not really supposed to talk about, so, um, let’s keep it between you and me, OK?
When my Tenth Man came out from Prizm, I felt nothing at all. Now Handbook is out, and I love [...]
Trouble and Freebies

Someone mentioned to me that they got a copy of Tenth Man with a garbled back cover. This is the first I’ve heard of the trouble, but her’s may not be the only freaky copy out there.
If you got one of the limited edition collector’s item garbled copies, I’m sorry about that. Just email [...]

JC informs me Tenth Man is sold out on Amazon.
Item 1: I heart you guys.
Item 2: If any of you folks have read the book I’d love to hear what you thought of it.
Edit: You can still get it here.
Edit the Second: Looks like there are copies available from Amazon again.
Now I Feel Like a Writer

The writer Matt Cohen, the Jewish-Canadian outsider*, who had an autobiography posthumously published (famously labeled “hate mail from beyond the grave” by critics), used to ask “Am I famous yet?”. Similarly, since I sold Tenth Man, I’ve been wandering around asking, “Am I a writer yet?”
Well, today, I am. Not because JC sent me a [...]
Ten Things I Learned About Publishing This Year

In no particular order:
1. Do as your editor says. They are wise and know much and they have a plan.
2. Read your galleys. Galleys are to text as dryers are to socks; inside of them text sometimes disappears.
3. If a submissions editor says, “Sorry, I’m behind, give me two more weeks” more than three times [...]
Life vs Writing

Sorry I have been a little quiet lately. It’s because I’ve actually been quite writerly for the last few days and haven’t had much time to blog.
I got my galley for Tenth Man, which was great and strange and meant that I spent all of yesterday (day) reading work I’d written that didn’t look [...]

So, last night I had a conversation with Tina Anderson about self publishing after I ran across her blog. She’s written a post about the cost of self publishing which is novel because it’s not just about the price of editing and printing and binding, it’s about the price of selling a book as if [...]
Free Fetus Friday?

Today at work all my latte art looked less like hearts and more like fetuses and by the end of the day I was putting a little dot for an eye on each one. Fortunately I was serving customers who share my sense of humor. One looked down at his coffee and said, “Oh, is [...]
